The Academy now features a state-of-the-art, timber-framed driving range facility with 16 individual bays, each equipped with its own Trackman screen for detailed feedback and analysis.

Mark Day
PGA Teaching Professional
I’m a Fellow of the PGA, a UKCC Level 4 coach, and Head PGA teaching professional at Brocket Hall Golf Club with over 30 years of coaching experience. My approach is rooted in collaboration — I believe that coaching is a partnership between player and coach, and that performance can be by design, not by chance. But you always have a choice!
My coaching philosophy focuses on helping players develop adaptability, creativity, and confidence through game-based learning and real-world challenges. Whether you’re on a recreational journey or a competitive pathway, I work to understand your goals, motivations, and learning preferences to design bespoke plans that promote long-term skill development — not just technical change.
Over the years, I’ve supported players of all levels — from primary school children discovering golf for the first time to elite athletes competing internationally. Over the last 25 years, I’ve held coaching roles with Kent Golf, Surrey Golf, and Hertfordshire Golf, and spent 10 years with England Golf, including eight years as National Lead Coach for the Girls’ Team. During that time, we won multiple national and international individual events, as well as a European Team Bronze Medal.
I’ve also coached on the Ladies European Tour, supporting a player to a top 10 finish in the season rankings. But equally important to me is creating accessible pathways for golfers to start, stay, and grow in golf.
My strengths lie in adapting to individuals and providing a holistic, human-centred coaching experience. I specialise in understanding the game from both a player and coach perspective, helping students of all ages and stages play better golf and have more fun.
When I’m not at the academy or on the golf course, you’ll probably find me working on my tennis game, listening to music, exploring new ideas through podcasts, or cheering (sometimes painfully) for Southampton FC.

Martin Robinson
Head PGA Professional
Hi, I’m Martin and I bring more than 20 years coaching experience. Starting my career in North West England I went on to spend 13 years heading some of the best Golf Academies in the Middle East, working with all standards from new golfers to tour players. Returning to England I worked at the Shire London and currently hold the position of Head County Coach for Middlesex.
I am TPI, Trackman, Boditrack and Trained Brain qualified. Combining technical experience with physical and mental skills, I help each player to dial in on the areas of improvement to achieve their goals, pegged closely to lower scores. To that end I see a lot of value in 9-hole playing lessons to see what is really going on out there and we can implement strategies for pre-shot routine, club selection and game planning. I also have a passion for the short game and I have helped develop a system called Wedgelogy to upgrade the way you train your short game.
If you have any questions or would like to experience coaching at our state of the art practice facility please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

John Howells
Lead Putting Coach
I am a highly respected PGA Professional with over 15 years of elite coaching experience who leads the Phil Kenyon Putting team at the world-class Brocket Hall facility.
My coaching journey began at the prestigious Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, where I realised at 19 years old that my true calling was in coaching. After completing PGA training there, I progressed to become Senior Instructor at the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Dubai, coaching there from 2012-2018. During this time, I worked with players from around the world, developing a sharp eye for detail and an adaptable coaching style grounded in biomechanics, skill acquisition, and elite performance environments.
In 2019, I returned to the UK to become Head Professional at JCB Golf & Country Club, where I played a central role in launching and establishing one of the country’s most exclusive golf venues. I’m proud to have helped shape a performance-driven culture, particularly in short game and putting development.
Although I’ve coached all areas of the game since 2010, my deep passion for putting was ignited in 2015 after completing the Phil Kenyon Certified Instructor programme with Phil in Shanghai, China.

Simon Wakefield
PGA Professional
I’m an English professional golfer known for resilience and consistent performances on the European Tour. Born on April 14, 1974, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, I turned professional in 1997 after a promising amateur career, which included winning the 1996 Tillman Trophy and several county championships. My professional journey has been marked by determination and comebacks.
After initially securing a spot on the European Tour through qualifying school in 1999, I faced challenges in retaining a tour card. Notably, in 2009, I battled illness, including swine flu and pleurisy, leading to a six-month hiatus from the game. Despite these setbacks, I regained my European Tour card in 2010 by winning the Qualifying School Final Stage at the PGA Catalunya Resort, finishing 21-under-par and two strokes ahead of the runner-up.
Throughout my career, I’ve achieved notable successes, including two professional wins: the Tessali Open del Sud in 2002 and the Dimension Data Pro-Am in 2005. I also had a standout performance at The Open Championship in 2008, finishing tied for 19th after briefly challenging for the lead.
In 2015, after over 350 appearances on the European Tour, I retired from professional golf.
My journey is a testament to perseverance and passion for the game, inspiring many in the golfing world.
