ASSISTANT KITCHEN GARDENER

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Kitchen Gardener to join our Greenkeeping Team.
Job Brief:
This role encompasses study, providing the opportunity to enrol onto a relevant course in Sept 24’. You will study at college one day per week with the remaining four days working onsite at our Kitchen Garden in the grounds of Brocket Hall Estate growing produce for our on-site restaurant Auberge Du Lac.
The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day duties within the Kitchen Garden including seed sowing, transplanting, crop planting focusing on companion & intercropping, bed management, weed & pest control, soil management, irrigation, permaculture practices and winter projects; building archways, obelisks, tree pruning etc as well as year-round general maintenance.
Ensure all equipment is kept clean and in good working order reporting any faults immediately and be fully aware and adhere to all Health & Safety, Fire and Emergency procedures.
Candidate Profile:
A keen interest in vegetable growing & gardening is a must. Horticultural experience as a whole with a minimum of one years’ experience in a similar position is essential to this role. We will consider individuals who have a passion for veg growing & gardening with a basic understanding of growing vegetables, herbs, fruits & flowers.
Willing to work outdoors in most conditions, you will have a pro-active and practical mindset with a can-do attitude with the ability to work as a team or individually. You will be organised and communicate well, tackle problems head on and be presentable.
A full clean driving license and own vehicle is essential.
The Schedule:
Monday – Thursday 6:30am – 3:30pm, Friday 3:00pm
Full time 42 hours (changes seasonally)
We may consider 2 x Part time (20 hours)
